Your sinuses are empty cavities inside your cheek bones, around your eyes and behind your nose. The job of the sinuses is to warm, moisten and filter the air in your nasal cavity.
Sinusitis is an inflammation of the sinus lining. Acute sinusitis is caused by an infection, typically viral or bacteria. If bacterial, antibiotics are usually necessary for resolution. Recurring acute sinusitis suggests an underlying inflammatory disorder, such as allergies.
