If sinusitis lasts for approximately 4 weeks, it is considered to be acute , 4-12 weeks it’s considered to be subacute, and chronic if symptoms last for more than 3 months. You may have recurrent sinusitis if you have repeated bouts of acute sinusitis.

Many of the elements that contribute to the development of childhood sinusitis include: allergies, illnesses from other children, the use of pacifiers and adults smoking around the child.. Smoking is usually the culprit for sinusitis in adults. The way to treat sinusitis is dependent on how severe the infection and what caused it. The most common way to treat simple acute sinusitis is with Over The Counter decongestants along with a vaporizer. Nonprescription decongestant nasal drops or sprays have also given great results. If the infection is bacteria based, penicillin-type antibiotics like Augmentin are effective.
