Orthotics Treatment

15_Orthotics TreatmentOrthotics are custom designed inserts for your shoes that support your arch and align your foot to make your feet function properly. They must be custom fit to work properly and they may be soft or firm.

Foot and lower leg issues occur in young and old alike. Most often, a podiatrist will prescribe the orthotics to help correct bio-mechanical problems and to help improve one’s gait.

Podiatrist will completely examine your body mechanics, the shoes you wear, what you do for a living and your lifestyle before prescribing orthotics for you.

Orthotics is a specialist medical discipline in which external orthoses or braces/supports are designed and fitted to an individual to provide one or more of the following:

Correction or prevention of a physical deformity

  • Stabilization of a joint or joints
  • Reduction of pain
  • Improvement in mobility or performance
  • Reduction in the risk of injury

Proper foot function and alignment are proven to be corrected when prescription orthotics are worn. Regular use of these devices will relieve pain and help to correct minor misalignments in the feet. The bones become stabilized and the feet are slowly restored to more healthy pattern of walking.

All feet are different which is why it’s so important to create custom devices that are specific to each patient. Arch supports from the department store are “one size fits all” and they do nothing to support or align your own feet.
